Finally, a day of rain and a day of rest. We’ve been driving hard for two days to get from Squamish all the way up to Jasper, a total of 812 km. It’s not particularly a lot of distance for a road trip, especially spread over 2 days, but these miles were hard earned. What we lacked in distance, we easily made up for in vertical elevation. Squamish is roughly sea level, lovely and temperate. Jasper, on the other hand, sits at a majestic and mountainous 3,500 feet. While we expected to get up into the mountains at some point along the way, we had no idea (in spite of the name, yes…) that traveling via the “Sea to Sky Highway” from Squamish past Whistler to Pemberton and ending at Cache Creek would shoot us up to 4,200 feet in the first 50 or so kilometers.
