A job which I had for a long time in my mind was to remove the EGR Valve from the engine inlet. The simple way is to block the vacuum pipe which is connected to the valve which I did about a year ago or go for the bigger task of removing the valve assembly and fit a blank.
I could not source a flange in the UK and I ended up ordering one from the UAE. The flange is the same as in the 105 series Land Cruiser but it is virtually impossible to get hold of on this model as are parts which are not the same as for the 100er series which are few and far between.
I have also ordered the gaskets and I tried to get a hold of a blind flange for the connection on the exhaust manifold but I could not get one. I made a flange myself out of an old steel bracket which I no longer required.
The removal of the flange was a doddle but I could not get the 2 bolts on the exhaust manifold loose and I ended up to leave it for the time being as I travel in the near future to Austria and I will not end up to shear something off and cannot fix it on time for my holiday.
I was shocked how much gunge and deposits are in the inlet pipes. Especially where the valve was fitted and the inlet manifold. Unfortunately I could not clean everything out without removing the manifold but plan to do this another time.
I have driven a view hundred miles since I removed the EGR valve but could not notice any improvement and also the fuel consumption did not change. I will see over a longer period if any changes happen.

Thanks Thomas, I have purchased the flange Toyota number 17861-17030 from Amayama, Dubai, UAE for £52.00 including delivery and tax, which is rather expensive. I have not tried to get it locally at my Toyota dealer. Maybe they could get it as well. Probably more expensive. I hope this helps.

Great “article”. What year is your LC100? Does it have electronic engine control? Did you experience any problems while driving or engine light coming up? Could your car still pass MOT? Thanks!

Thank you, my LC is a year 2000 model and has electronic engine control (HD-FTE engine). I have not experience any problems or any lights coming on. I fact it makes no difference when the EGR valve is not connected. Have a try; just remove the small air hose which is connected to the EGR valve. You have to block the hose, so no air will escape. Also I had no issues with the MOT; I have passed all the time since removal.
